At Hope Roots Collective, we believe people grow best when they grow together. Like sister plantings in a thriving garden, each of us has different needs, strengths, and gifts — and planting ourselves side‑by‑side allows us to exchange support, deepen resilience, and flourish in ways we simply can’t do alone.
This is true for founders, for providers, and for clients.
Everyone here is rooted together.
Our mission is to cultivate a community where collectivism and compassion for self and others take the lead — where no one feels like they have to carry everything alone. We want every interaction with Hope Roots to feel genuine, affirming, respectful, and nurturing. And we want both providers and clients to have enough mental, emotional, and physical capacity to enjoy the work they do and the lives they lead.
When providers work from a full cup, they have more to offer their clients.
When clients work from a full cup, they have more to offer their families, friends, and communities.
We believe there’s more than enough to go around. We cheer each other on, freely share resources, and celebrate one another’s growth and success.
We value the diverse paths and perspectives each person brings. Ideas are exchanged in a judgment‑free space where curiosity leads and learning flourishes.
We offer tools, share what’s worked for us, and support you in discovering what works best for you on your journey.
We recognize the deep and ongoing impact of systemic oppression. With lifelong learning and self‑reflection, we strive to cultivate practices that actively resist racism, sexism, and all forms of marginalization.
Leah Schwarz and Ren Knott met more than a decade ago as clinical interns at a domestic violence agency. They grew side-by-side through some of the hardest and most foundational work of their lives — advocating for safety, healing, and healthier communities. When it came time to launch private practices, they did that side‑by‑side too.
Leah opened Hope Esperanza Counseling, offering bilingual services to empower teens and moms. Ren opened Journey Counseling KC, supporting adults through trauma and challenging transitions. They rented space in a corporate office building — adequate, but not aligned with the warmth, nature, and community they longed for.
The dream began to take root at a Longhorn Steakhouse booth in January 2023.
Leah envisioned a space where nature could be woven into therapy — trees, breathing room, sunlight, plants, flowers, and room to walk around. Ren added the longing for intentional community — not draining networking, not isolation, but real connection in a natural rhythm.
It was a long and challenging path to find and secure a place to call home.
In late 2024, Leah and Ren, along with their support systems, began the hard work of renovating a 1929 farmhouse on 1.8 acres into a functional and beautiful space.
During renovations, Leah’s daughter mused that “the property” needed a better name. And she was right. They landed on Meadow House — a reflection of the sweet, grounding home with its own private meadow; a haven from the city’s chaos, where things slow down and people can feel present.
The doors opened in March 2025 with joy, relief, gratitude, and ever flowing hope.
Hope Roots is built on the belief that nature is a powerful healer.
Our 1929 farmhouse sits on 1.8 acres of green space — swings, shaded seating, a walk‑and‑talk loop, and quiet corners for reflection. Indoors, the space feels warm, homey, and intentionally designed to help people exhale.
We integrate nature‑based practices into therapy, retreats, workshops, and provider gatherings. Whether you’re inside Meadow House or outside under the trees, the land itself becomes part of the healing experience.
We are committed to cultivating a space that actively resists racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and all forms of marginalization. We practice cultural humility, engage in ongoing learning, and strive to create an environment where every person feels safe, respected, and valued. We honor our humanity and welcome feedback with openness. When we miss the mark, we invite you to let us know so we can offer repair, learn from it, and grow toward better care and connection.
